The Department's mission is to educate students — as well as the broader campus community — in the fundamental concepts of the computing discipline, to create and disseminate computing knowledge and technology, and to use expertise in computing to help society solve problems.
They apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. This discipline evolves quickly, reflecting new areas of specialization or changes in technology. They're involved in the design and development of many types of software, operating systems and network distribution, and compilers. A core team may comprise engineering, marketing, manufacturing, and design people, who work together to release a product. Source: U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics
