Engineering Education receives gift to fund professorships

Thomas O. Hunter, Ph.D. (BS ME ’66) recently made an investment in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering’s Department of Engineering Education by establishing the Thomas O. Hunter Professorship, with Jeremy A. M. Waisome, Ph.D. and Amie Baisley, Ph.D. as recipients.

Erin Jackson (B.S. MSE ’15), a U.S. Olympic gold medalist speedskater, Florida native and University of Florida engineering alumna, will share her story: She will give the commencement address at UF’s all-university spring graduation ceremony May 5.

Along with Hella, his wife of 54 years, son, Bryan (UF BS Building Construction ’93) and daughter, Michelle Botic Hughes (UF BS Business Administration ’92), he established the Botic Family Scholars Professional Pathways Fund to provide experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE).
