UF’s Patrick Musgrave, Ph.D., has received the prestigious Air Force Young Investigator Award and $450K in research funding to develop adaptive aircraft structures that sense, decide, and respond on their own. His work could lead to lighter, faster, and more responsive aircraft by using structural vibrations instead of traditional sensors and computers.

Wayne Chen, Ph.D. was a pioneer who shaped the defining trajectory of the college with a lasting tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to service.  

Interdisciplinary faculty members at the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering continue to garner prestigious recognition for their contributions to science and engineering.

The director of Graduate Recruiting and Undergraduate Research, Mike Nazareth was honored recently by the National Association of Graduate Recruiting and Admissions Professionals (NAGAP) for developing a system that helps engineering colleges across the country find top candidates for master’s and doctoral programs. 

The Eckhoff Steel Bridge Team has captured its fifth consecutive national title. The championship marks the UF team’s seventh first-place win since 1997, the most wins by a single team in the competition’s 33-year history.

This year’s National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP) program only awarded 1,000 grants, nearly half as many as in the past, and yet eight University of Florida Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering students were selected to receive awards for their exemplary work and contributions to their departments.

The University of Florida Research Foundation has named 35 of the university’s most productive and promising faculty members as UFRF Professors for 2025.

David Wantman, co-founder of a successful South Florida-based consulting, planning, surveying and design firm and 1990 UF engineering graduate, has been selected as a Distinguished Alumnus from the University of Florida.
